Vestibular Physical Therapy for Dizzy Patients

Consider Physical Therapy For Your Dizzy Patients!

Dizziness is one of the most common complaints made by patients. In fact, it is the most common complaint of people over age 75.

Dizziness is also highly associated with an increased risk of falling, it is important to know that Physical Therapy can be an excellent treatment option that provides symptom relief and balance confidence to prevent falls.

Common Vestibular Diagnoses


The Physical Therapist will assess the patient, reviewing symptoms, occurrences and a complete medical history.

An occulomotor exam will be performed in order to identify any possible central involvement and to assess for hypofunction.

Assessment for BPPV with the Dix-Hallpike and the Roll Test will be included with the appropriate cervical screening.

The patient’s static and dynamic balance will be assessed with additional testing to determine the patient’s ability to perform sensory integration.

Treatment: Each session and treatment will be individually tailored to the patient’s needs and progress including the following elements:

Patient Education

  • Positioning for BPPV
  • Gaze Stability Exercises
  • Postural Stabilization Exercises
